Pre-dinner drinks are hosted in the MLounge as it offers a unique atmosphere where old worldly class meets sophisticated modern glamour. Interior genius Etienne Hannekom is behind the statement pieces and suave autogenous which brings pops of colour and charm to Majeka.

After a cocktail or two we headed off to our room which was absolutely magnificent. Each of the rooms are individually decorated with specific themes. This is just another feature that makes Majeka a popular destination as you are always in for a surprise on arrival for your next stay.

No longer after sitting down and relaxing it was time to get ready for dinner. The launch of something new and exciting…

Luxury accommodation wouldn’t be complete without a restaurant that lives up to the expectations and luckily for Majeka their destination restaurant does just that Makaron was opened in November of 2008 and had since won numerous accolades, one being Top 20 in the DSTV Eat Out Choice Awards (2012,2013 and 2014) as well as the Boschendal Style Award and you can definitely see why.

Having just won the Best Design Hotel in Africa and the Middle East by Conté Nast, it is no wonder that the Head Chef Lucas Castens has decided to heat things up before winter with his freshly inspired small plates concept.

The launch of the small plate menu offers a selection of specialities that have been carefully thought through and prepared. Each element on the plate has been meticulously deliberated on before adding it to the newly launched menu.

““Globally, there’s definitely a trend towards small plate tapas-style dining, with people sharing flavours and textures around the table,” explains Carstens, who took the helm of the Makaron kitchen in 2015. “The idea here is flexibility, and we want guests to decide for themselves how they discover the menu.”

Inspired by his own culinary adventures and library of cookbooks Chef Lucas and his team have dreamt up this amazing newfangled menu that offers 18 completely diverse small plates. Although the menu is broken up into suggested sections its encouraged that you allow your taste buds to guide you through picking which courses you would like to try and in which order…so maybe you can start with dessert this time!

After a staggering almost 8 course menu, I made my way up to my room where I got snuggled into my bath robe and lit a fire before having possibly one of the best nights sleeps. Could it be that I was thoroughly stuffed like a Turkey on the eve of Thanks giving or was it the nostalgic hotel bed that did it…all I know is that I woke up and it was time for the famous Majeka House breakfast.

With a full continental breakfast on offer and a stomach still very satisfied after the meal from the night before, I was excited for a light breakfast. While sipping on a glass of bubbles and reaching for your favourite pastry you can order from the menu of their popular hot breakfast options which was perfect for the morning after (a big meal!)

Fresh fruit, smoked salmon in individual jars with lemon wedges, speciality pasties, gourmet cheeses, cured meats and hot artesian breads on offer there is something for everyone.

With the scrape of my knife and fork on my plate breakfast was over and it was time to hit the road. Another adventure awaits me but I can not wait to be back…even if it is just for the friendly smiles of the Majeka staff.
