Babylonstoren is definitely a home away from home. The ethics and thought that goes into farm to fork cooking is perfection. Seasonality and earthly consciousness is a trait that they pride themselves on. Each garden has a garden keeper that tends to the produce and is specialised in those fruits and vegetables. From the soil, watering, how much sun it gets and when it needs to be picked, the produce definitely live a good life. Short of being massaged like the infamous Wagu beef.
If you are lucky enough to get a booking at Babel then you will enjoy all the tastes and flavours of the most seasonal ingredients. If not, make your way over to the Green house restaurant for a light selection for breakfast or lunch. Open from 10:00am till 16:00pm you can enjoy building your own salad or sandwich. I chose to build my own salad by adding smoked trout and gorgonzola to the daily preselected dish of vegetables and I was blown away!
So of course I couldn’t miss the opportunity to Instagram it (follow mw at @eatwithmesa.) That is the salad…I mean really!!! Its perfect. Wrapped in the closed napkin was my boyfriends freshly made sourdough and ciabatta crossed Boerewoers roll with spicy tomato relish. How amazing! There is a wide selection of choices for everyone.
Besides the feel good whole some food, the service is warm and inviting! Everyone who works there are happy and local to the area. They can explain and recommend places to visit that are close. So the next time your in and around the Franschhoek area, pop in…you wont be disappointed!!!
